This is the first talk that I ever gave, at Animal Behaviour in Snowbird, Utah, in 2006. It’s pretty rough, but you never forget your first. The design is much like what everyone else at a talk does: words, words, and more words, interleaved with results graphs or the occasional helpful clipart and wrapped up in a ‘fun’ PowerPoint template. My wife did what she could to help me, but I wasn’t ready for anything more adventurous yet. To be fair, I’m looking back with more experience now. When I gave that talk, I was petrified of being up in front of all those big brains in the room (my talk was well-attended that year). Taking chances with the design was the last thing on my mind.
